Pronouns: You should know that a noun is a person, place, or thing.  Pronouns are words that can be substituted for nouns when we get sick and tired of referring to the thing we’re talking about.  Consider the following rant…  “My computer is annoying.  My computer crashed yesterday because I tried to download too much music onto my computer.  I turned my computer off and will hope that my computer is functioning later when I turn my computer on again.”  If you do not feel the urge to substitute “it” for “my computer” in the preceding sentences, you need to consult a doctor.  “It” is a pronoun.  Other common pronouns that are substituted for the things they refer to are he, she, and it.  If you are feeling particularly slow in understanding what a pronoun is, try constructing sentences with words like him, her, and his and putting the original noun back in place of these words.
