The Power of Möchten

[ad name=”Adsense”]

Möchten is a verb that you will need to draw on often when speaking German.  And it is one example of how certain aspects of the German language can save breath.  That’s right, you don’t want to be wasting too much air, it might lower your life span.  It is recommended that you absorb this new vocabulary immediately.  (All recommendations should only be pursued after consulting your family linguist, this website is for entertainment purposes only).

*Side Note:  möchten is a modal auxiliary verb.  So if any of the discussion sounds a bit non-verbish, be sure to brush up on this topic.

Think of the words “would like.”  You can put them in context if you want.  For example, “I would like to leave this blog post immediately.”  Meditate on these two words until some form of abstract image is produced in your mind.  Now attach the word möchten to that abstract image.  (Conjugations can be found online for those who are exceptionally curious).  Not only have you learned a new German verb, but now….when using this modal verb…you only need to say one word instead of two.  Enjoy your increased supply of oxygen!
