Someone needs to start a “Common Sense Legality” movement. Maybe you’ve already read the overly-lengthy rant concerning the need to drastically reduce the number of words in a copyright statements. Well, as you know, we (a friend and I) have been trying to learn German and we keep getting sidetracked by a variety of items (each documented in this blog). Have you ever read the fine print in a foreign language book? Yet another example of excessive legality….

Our German book states things like this….not directly quoted of course….”the information might not be appropriate for you in this book” or “there are no guarantees that anything in this book is accurate” or “you should consult a professional” (yes, really!) and so forth…

Again, items like this need to be simplified. A proposal: “We tried our best to create an informative, accurate German book but mistakes happen… By opening this book you agree that we are not liable in any way for anything that happens to you ever!” I think this works.
